It's no surprise to those in the know.

Criminal prosecutions for occupational health and safety violations are on the rise.

But what may come as a surprise to some is that it's a trend that's been a long time coming.

Even here at home in Alberta.

In a 2017, our then Provincial Court delivered a powerful message: "Individuals who manage work sites, especially those employing vulnerable workers, need to be reminded that there will be a personal price to pay for their conduct when it contributes to the creation of, obviously, treacherous working conditions in violation of clear safety requirements. The price may not be a monetary penalty. Such an individual can expect to pay for their conduct with their freedom."

The messaging was clear. So why didn't it garner more attention?

It was delivered in an unreported decision.

Understanding the significance of unreported case decisions is crucial, and it underscores why attending the upcoming webinar on "The Unreportables", Part I of our OH&S Professional Series, is essential. Unreported cases often contain valuable insights and legal interpretations that might not receive widespread attention. Yet, these decisions can set important precedents, shape legal standards, and have far-reaching implications for individuals and organizations. By attending the webinar, you can gain a deeper understanding of the "hidden" legal landscape, stay informed about recent developments, and make informed decisions to protect your interests. Don't miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to delve into the nuances of unreported case decisions and their impact on the occupational health and safety landscape!
